Empowering the Wrongfully Incarcerated: Our Journey to Justice

Empowering the Wrongfully Incarcerated: Our Journey to Justice At The Harriet Tubman Project, we are dedicated to honoring the legacy of Harriet Tubman and promoting social justice. Our mission is to empower those most impacted by systematic racism, particularly those wrongfully incarcerated in the criminal legal system. Through education, advocacy, and policy change, we aim to lead individuals in their fight for freedom and dismantle the structural racism that has led to the epidemic of wrongful convictions. Our journey towards empowering the wrongfully incarcerated has been a challenging yet rewarding one. It all began in 2021, when a legal education class was started by the residents of the Massachusetts Correctional Institute of Norfolk. This class served as the foundation for The Harriet Tubman Project, and from there, we have grown into a non-profit organization with a strong commitment to justice. One of the key aspects of our work is education. We believe that knowledge is power, and by providing educational resources and opportunities, we can empower those who have been wrongfully incarcerated. Through our legal education classes, we equip individuals with the tools they need to navigate the complex legal system and advocate for their rights. We also offer workshops and training sessions on topics such as reentry support, mental health, and job readiness, to ensure that those who have been wrongfully incarcerated have the skills and knowledge to rebuild their lives. Advocacy is another crucial component of our work. We believe in amplifying the voices of the wrongfully incarcerated and advocating for their rights. We work closely with individuals who have been wrongfully convicted to share their stories and raise awareness about the injustices they have faced. Through public speaking engagements, media interviews, and social media campaigns, we strive to bring attention to the flaws in the criminal legal system and advocate for meaningful change. Policy change is at the heart of our mission. We recognize that dismantling structural racism requires systemic change, and we are committed to advocating for policy reforms that address the root causes of wrongful convictions. We work with lawmakers, community organizations, and other stakeholders to push for legislation that promotes fairness, equity, and justice within the criminal legal system. By engaging in policy advocacy, we aim to create lasting change that will prevent future wrongful convictions and ensure that justice is served. We invite you to join us on our journey towards justice. Whether you are a supporter, volunteer, or someone who has been directly impacted by the criminal legal system, your voice and your actions matter. Together, we can make a difference and empower those who have been wrongfully incarcerated. Visit our website to learn more about The Harriet Tubman Project and how you can get involved.
