HIStory
Darryl “Sulay” Scott, a Boston native, is a founding member of the Harriet Tubman Project. On February 7th, 2003, at 21 years old, Sulay was arrested and shortly thereafter sentenced to life in prison, a victim of severe over-sentencing following an act of self-defense in Suffolk County. He is currently being held at MCI-Norfolk. In spite of his circumstances, Sulay has remained dedicated to inspiring others to fight for their right to be treated humanely, no matter the odds against them. On the other side of the wall, Sulay has a son who was born soon after his incarceration and has suffered the absence of his Father for over twenty years. Sulay also has loving parents, siblings, and a large extended family who remain connected to him and eagerly await his physical freedom. Sulay’s accomplishments while incarcerated are expansive and diverse. He has completed several academic courses, workshops, and retreats as well as facilitated workshops for others behind the wall. For example, Sulay participated as a facilitator in a nonviolent conflict resolution workshop, attended the Restorative Justice Responsibility Retreat, received a 3.33 GPA from Tufts University College of Special Studies, and attended the Parents Helping Parents Parenting Support Group for Dads among many other endeavors.
